Dear Parents of L-S Music Students,
L-S Friends of Music is excited about our children’s opportunities for performance, growth and peer collaboration this year under Tom Grandprey’s and Michael Bunting's direction. Our musicians are hard at work, and their school year is well underway. As music parents, we hope you are feeling a palpable sense of excitement about things to come. L-S Friends of Music promotes excellence in music education and funds events and learning experiences not supported within the school budget. Friends of Music includes all families of music students at L-S ~ you are already a member of L-S FOM!
We raise funds, provide logistical support, publicize music events and advocate for a strong, vibrant music program at L-S. Through active fundraising efforts and a strong base of parent volunteers, we provide special opportunities for all our students to expand their musical horizons and talents. Tom Grandprey and Michael Bunting have great initiatives and plans in mind for our children. Thanks to matching gifts, grants and, most of all, the incredible generosity of parents last year L-S FOM has partially or entirely funded:
1) A beautiful, hand built upright bass used in orchestra and jazz ensembles
2) A new tuba for the Concert Band was purchased last spring
3) School owned concert dress, available on loan for eligible choral students with financial need
4) Choral and Instrumental Master classes on the calendar for the fall
5) A fully-equipped guitar class that is seeing record enrollment
6) Music lesson scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need
This year, given the continued funding cuts, there is more on the table for L-S FOM to consider funding. Included this year are requests to fund registration at the MICCA festivals for both Chamber Singers and Vocal Jazz, and for Select and Jazz Bands. This funding has been traditionally provided by LS, but was cut as budgets adjusted to a mandated reduction. Choral, Jazz and Orchestral masterclasses are on tap for this year with your continued support.
Such enrichments can only be offered because parents, friends and businesses contribute. Please continue this momentum, know your financial assistance enables these opportunities – and others – to continue for our L-S musicians. The Annual Fund Drive is our primary fundraising activity. The Annual Fund Drive is our primary fundraising activity. Our funds are directed to affect every student musician enrolled in Band, Orchestra and Choir. As always, we are grateful for your generosity, both financially and in the time you give to your child’s music education.
We are grateful for your contribution and greatly appreciate those of you who have already been so generous financially and in volunteer hours. For more information, email Jen Flanagan.
